about

Correlation’s ninth LP, entitled "Rewind The Exit Tape", follows on from his previous cinematic release Aftermath, taking inspiration once again from the West Coast in an oscillating world where Vangelis & Froese drive out of the sunset into town with Death Grips on the stereo!

Neil Hale: "Rewind The Exit Tape" lives in the same universe as my other LPs "Night Acquisitions" and "Aftermath". It’s intended as a follow on to "Aftermath" using a similar sound pallet with a few new gadgets and instruments thrown in. A lot of my music doesn’t have a concept so it was fun diving into a faux soundtrack world again and thinking about creating another space for a few loosely imagined characters. I’d be lying if I said it was anymore planned out than that, but something I have enjoyed doing whilst making an LP like this is to research locations where I think the story could take place and use locations/monuments etc for song titles and inspiration. I’m not sure if it makes any difference to the overall outcome of the sound but I like to think so.

The previous LPs were set on the West Coast of the USA. I plumped for the Pacific Northwest. I also have a couple of friends in that neck of the woods which piqued my interest. Also why do a lot of cults seem to end up or pass through there? Fuck knows!

I’d been enjoying a fair bit of modern hip-hop production so fancied trying to switch up my drum programming a bit on a few tracks, oh yeah I also loved the programming (and indeed everything else) on the last Dalham LP so that was in my thinking a bit too. Basically I wanted to make a load of really heavy tracks and some more reflective cinematic fayre, so I hope I came close!

Hope you enjoy.

Cheers, Neil.
